The Spirit Moves You At Knox

This is a church of exceptional quality. Key aspects of the church that caught my attention were: Great sermons by Tom York. Week after week he delivers thought-provoking messages that stay with you. He makes you stop and think. He likes to challenge the thinking of his congregation. He keeps your attention because he always seems to have a new take on how to think about scripture. The traditional service has an outstanding choir led by Earl Rivers who also teaches choral music at CCM. The soloists and organists are very professional. The music attracts many people here for the first time. The Fresh Spirit Service is exactly that - a fresh, contemporary take on worship. The band and singers are first rate and the music is upbeat but not loud. They want everybody to sing. This service includes Tom's sermons but also has members of the congregation leading the liturgy. This approach makes it fresh and different each week. The youth groups are large and active. They have fun putting on a musical each year, and they go on a week long retreat to Montreat, N.C. each year. The kids have a blast on that. The church is involved in many mission activities including Interfaith Hospitality Network which involves many members of the congregation. There is a warm and friendly feeling about this church, and its Hyde Park setting is very attactive.
